The blaze, near Green Valley in Arizona, was started by Dennis Dickey, a 37-year-old off-duty border patrol agent who was attempting a stunt to reveal the gender of an unborn baby in which he shot a rifle at a target in the middle of a grassy area.
The party took place previous year on April 23 and was meant to reveal the gender of the host couple's soon-to-arrive baby, but the explosive reveal instead set fire to the surrounding area, causing a 47,000-acre wildfire and damages worth millions of dollars.
The forest service investigated the fire, which authorities said caused more than $8 million in suppression costs and damages.

During the court appearance in which he was sentenced, Dickey told the judge the fire "was a complete accident", the Daily Star reported.
