Topping the bill at Madison Square Garden in New York City is a heavyweight title fight between champion Daniel Cormier and the in-form Derrick Lewis.
UFC president Dana White, center, breaks up Jon Jones, left, and Alexander Gustafsson during a news conference talking about their light heavyweight mixed martial arts bout, Friday, Nov. 2, 2018, at Madison Square Garden in NY.
In the post-fight interview, Cormier said, "Brock Lesnar, when you come bring that brand new WWE title so I feel like being the WWE champion too".
Daniel Cormier slapped a pair of championship belts over his shoulders and celebrated UFC history. He broke his right hand in the Miocic fight and had been posturing for a potential fight against former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.
"I've got into the octagon into this quicker before I made it into UFC", Lewis said. Cormier said. "Thank you for blessing me Dana White, I thought I was just getting one". The fan favorite has had to fight through more adversity than your average "silver-spoon" athlete, to reach his current stature in the fight game. Having defended her UFC title twice now, it can definitely be argued that this next bout with Nunes will be her toughest challenge to date as well as potentially her last (in the UFC that is).More news: National Basketball Association wrap: Durant's fourth-quarter binge buries Knicks
The fighters joked for a while before Lewis could finally find a reason to dislike Cormier: "He disrespected that Popeye's chicken on a commercial a few years ago". It was his second suspension for a similar incident, and he's also been forced to take time away from the cage because of a late-night auto crash a few years back.
Cormier swears that's not going to happen, though.
"The reality is with me, it's not like just because I'm not fighting I'm not making money". The UFC has built up Conor McGregor, built his backstory and I love him. "But where people see Derrick Lewis knock out guys and it scares them, it excites me".
"I got Dana on the phone that day and was like 'What the?' and Dana doesn't take too many calls from fighters", Eubanks said Thursday in NY.
Despite the talk of his impending retirement, Cormier insists he's not taking Lewis lightly.
