The Detroit Lions have traded wide receiver Golden Tate to the Philadelphia Eagles for a third-round pick.

That's a more formal way of pointing out that Tate was in the final year of his contract, and that he was probably not showing indications of plans to-resign with Detroit in free agency. Last year, he caught 92 passes for 1,003 yards and five touchdowns.

Tate is still owed the remainder of the $7 million he is making this season, so he's not exactly a bargain.

He also leads the league in yards after catch since he was drafted in 2010 and has not missed a game since 2012.
