Kaufman County Jail online records show that Guyger is in custody there.
The officer, identified as Amber Guyger, 30, is a four-year-veteran of the force.
After the officer shot Jean late on Thursday at the end of her work shift, she called emergency services and told responding officers that she thought she had entered her own apartment. She has not yet been charged in the death of Botham Shem Jean, 26, a St. Lucia native who was an employee of the Dallas offices of PricewaterhouseCoopers, according to the Washington Post.
The Texas Department of Public Safety's Texas Rangers, who often assist agencies in investigating officer-involved shootings, are handling the case, which remained under investigation Saturday. Investigators haven't released the results of those tests. Her son will be buried on the Caribbean island Thursday.
Allison Jean in comments Friday broadcast by Dallas TV station KXAS questioned whether the off-duty officer would have reacted differently if she encountered a white man.
In that case, Guyger was attempting to identify a woman in a auto when another passenger in the vehicle got out and took her taser.
During a press conference, Dallas Police Chief Reneé Hall asked the community and the media for patience and cooperation.
Jean's mother, Allie Jean, who lives in St. Lucia and has been visiting with a daughter this week in Brooklyn, New York, said that she wants to forgive the officer and has a question for her: Why?More news: Ex-Trump campaign aide jailed in Russian Federation probe
Todd and Debbie Gentry drove to Dallas on Friday and picked up Botham Jean's mother at the airport. But Merritt said they wanted Guyger "to be treated like every other citizen, and where there is evidence that they've committed a crime, that there's a warrant to be issued and an arrest to be made". It is not clear what prompted the shooting but Guyger reportedly called police following the incident.
Botham Jean served as a regular song leader and taught a Wednesday night class for young adults, minister and elder Sammie Berry said.
"So just knowing the way that he died it seems unfair because think of the nice person that you know and the most generous person that you know and then they get shot as if they were a criminal or thief", Jessica said. She shot another man, Uvaldo Perez, on May 12, 2017, while she was on duty. Perez got out of a auto and became combative with Ms Guyger and another officer.
Chief Hall said she has been in contact with Jean's family and offered her condolences.
"Super scary because the police are supposed to protect you and then they come home and you're just hanging out in your own house and then they come home thinking they're home or whatever", he said.
He attended Harding University, a private Christian institution in Arkansas, and was a member of the Good News Singers and campus ministry. He described Jean as an "amazing individual" and said that "if the grand jury deems necessary, this officer should have to answer for her actions in a court of law in Dallas County".
Among those who offered prayers was Todd Gentry, college minister for the College Church of Christ in Searcy, where Botham Jean served as a ministry intern while at Harding.
