A Tennessee woman is now behind bars after video shows two young children traveling in pet kennels inside her vehicle.

Sixty-two-year-old Leimome Cheeks was arrested and charged with two counts of child endangerment, WREG reported.

Neighbors said Cheeks just bought two German Shepherd puppies that she would put in the kennels in the back of her truck.

According the the affidavit, Cheeks said "there was no room inside the vehicle earlier in the day", so she "told them to get inside the kennel".

Footage has emerged of the moment at grandmother apparently let her grandchildren out of dog kennels in the back of her vehicle.

The news station wrote that the two children told police they were hot in the kennels as there were no vents in the back of the vehicle, and temperatures soared to over 30 degrees celsius (86F).

One of them, Skylark Blake, said, "Cheeks is a "nice lady" adding that he "can't see her doing that".

"It's very sad. Because it feels like hell right here now, it's very hot", said Nikita Blake who is Cheeks neighbor.

"I think she needs some help. If she did that, then that's out of character for her", Eugene Richmond said.

According to authorities, there was no air conditioning in the back of the vehicle where the kids sat, and the children told police they were hot inside the kennels.

The bystander, who asked to remain anonymous, sent the video to Memphis Police.

The little girl can be seen getting out of the cage.

The woman is being held at the Shelby County Jail.

The children were 7 and 8-years-old, according to Cleveland 19 News.

Cheeks is scheduled to appear in court Monday morning.
