"Arbaaz placed bets during one of the past IPL seasons through Jalan", a senior officer associated with the probe said.
It is heard that Arbaaz Khan was in touch with bookie Sonu Jalan and lost approximately Rs. 2.83 Cr as per initial estimates.
Khan, who has to appear for questioning on Saturday, was summoned days after the arrest of bookie Sonu Jalan, alias Sonu Batla, who allegedly used to run a betting ring in India and overseas.
The police said, "The names of a Bollywood celebrity, contractors and builders are mentioned in the diary and we have got the list of bookies and are verifying it with Sonu Jalan".More news: Check out this very realistic Google Pixel 3 XL design
The channels also showed pictures of Arbaaz and Jalan together. Arbaaz is the younger brother of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.
Arbaaz Khan's connection in the IPL betting case left Twitterati feeling disappointed. The alleged kingpin of the betting scandal turned out to be a bookie named Sonu Jalan/Malad, with his connection with Dawood Ibrahim's D-Company also becoming a matter of investigation.
The police found a diary of 42-year-old Jalan, NDTV reported. "We are interrogating him about these links and about his money".
Sonu Jalan is also said to be associated with Dawood Ibrahim and is a close aide of another top worldwide bookie running the racket. In May 2013, Delhi police had arrested three Rajasthan Royals players on spot-fixing charges soon after a match in Mumbai.
Jalan was arrested last month by the Thane police in Kalyan where he had gone to meet another accused in the IPL betting case.
