On Tuesday evening at around 6pm, a passenger boat carrying almost 40 people from Devipatanam to Vadapalli of East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, capsized at Manturu village. The mishap took place last evening in the Godavari River waters after the boat with sunk in the river waters due to bad weather. The boat was loaded with cement bags and motorcycles too which has led to the mishap. Additional SP Ajitha Vejendla spoke to the Indian Express about the accident and said that survivors are being interviewed to ascertain the reason behind the incident.
A few days back a tourist boat carrying 100 passengers had caught fire but the driver managed to reach to safety before the fire spread. They finally located the boat after more than five hours of search but pulling it out proved to be a daunting task, officials involved in the rescue operation said.
Fishermen raced to the scene to help, and officials deployed police and a team from the National Disasters Relief Force.
