The 27-year-old daughter of police chokehold victim Eric Garner has been declared brain dead with no chance of recovery after her asthma triggered a massive heart attack. Pregnancy apparently strained a heart condition, and when she had a recent asthma attack, it set off cardiac arrest, and she felt into a coma on Saturday.
"She's not gone, she's brain dead", she told the newspaper.
Earlier this month, in an interview on the webshow Like it or Not, she talked about the physical toll that organizing and activism can take.
A worker running Garner's Twitter account stated Wednesday night that a "cat scan shows Erica suffered major brain damage from a lack of oxygen while in cardiac arrest".

Garner's father died in 2014 after an NYPD officer placed him in a chokehold.
Her newborn son was named in honor of his fallen grandfather in August. Since going into a coma, Garner's account has also continued to retweet condolences and thanks for her contributions to the movement against police brutality. She endorsed Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders for president and appeared in an campaign advertisement for the senator from Vermont, who posted a statement on Twitter in response to the news about her health.
Erica Garner used her prominence after his death to speak out against police abuse.
"From three years ago, she never stopped", he said. Miller says she was shunned by the Garner family. An out-of-court settlement in which the city agreed to pay the Garner family $5.9 million was announced in 2015. "I'm speaking out, me being his daughter", she said in the ad.
